  • Whisk (chasen) or frother

Instructions:

  1. Place about 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder in a bowl.
  2. Pour in about 2 ounces of hot water (around 175°F or 80°C).
  3. Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until the matcha is frothy.
  4. Adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired strength.

2. Amazake (Sweet Rice Drink)

Amazake, which translates to "sweet sake," is a non-alcoholic, sweet drink made from fermented rice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked short-grain rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-2 tablespoons koji (a type of mold used in fermentation)

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine the cooked rice and water until smooth.
  2. Add koji and mix well.
  3. Transfer to a rice cooker or a pot, maintaining a temperature of around 140°F (60°C) for 8-12 hours to allow fermentation.
  4. Once fermented, you can serve amazake warm or chilled, optionally sweetened with sugar or topped with fruit.

3. Hojicha (Roasted Green Tea)

Hojicha is a unique roasted green tea that has a distinct flavor profile, low caffeine content, and a soothing aroma.

Ingredients:

  • Hojicha tea leaves
  • Hot water

Instructions:

  1. Bring water to a boil and allow it to cool slightly to about 190°F (90°C).
  2. Add 1-2 teaspoons of hojicha leaves to the hot water.
  3. Steep for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, depending on your taste preference.
  4. Strain the leaves and enjoy your cup of warm hojicha.

4. Sencha (Japanese Green Tea)

Sencha is one of the most common types of green tea in Japan, known for its refreshing taste and slightly grassy aroma.

Ingredients:

  • Sencha tea leaves
  • Hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)

Instructions:

  1. Heat water to 175°F (80°C) and remove from heat.
  2. Add about 1-2 teaspoons of sencha tea leaves per cup of water.
  3. Let the tea steep for 1-2 minutes based on your taste preference.
  4. Strain the tea leaves and serve. Enjoy hot or iced!

5. Yuzu Tea

Instructions:
